Hello there! My name is Stephanie.
Like almost 80% of Americans and 30% of the world (yikes!), I am overweight. In fact, I am unlucky enough to be counted among the no-longer-few (almost 40% of Americans) that are obese.
I’m tall, so I hide it better than some. And I’m still fairly active, on and off. So I haven’t gotten to the point where I have type II diabetes… yet. I do have mild hypertension (high blood pressure), though — another weight-related illness. I also have high cholesterol, but barely. And I’m pretty sure I am chronically inflamed, like at least 3 out of 5 Americans are.
Chronic inflammation, for those of you not 100% sure of what that is, just means that your body’s immune system is in high gear pretty much all the time. It’s one of the big things that causes stroke, chronic respiratory diseases, heart disorders, cancer, obesity, and type II diabetes.
I’ve been on various diets on and off for almost 15 years. You don’t need to know all of them that I’ve tried. Suffice it to say, I’m sick and tired of all the fad diets, changing views on what’s good for us and what’s not, and mass confusion regarding what we should be eating.
What we should be eating should be well known and easy! But it’s just not. That needs to change.
It’s no wonder that we’re confused. We’re fed such varying information that oftentimes completely contradicts one another. Sugar is good, fat is bad. No, fat is good… sugar is bad. Eat carbs. Don’t eat carbs. Eat carbs but make sure they’re whole grain. It’s enough to leave you dizzy trying to keep up. And overweight. Still.
Enough, right?
So this blog is my attempt to cut through all the bullshit. I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. 🙂 I’m just someone who’s going to read a bunch of books, watch a bunch of documentaries, look at the actual studies being done out there, and cut through the fat and gristle to get to the good stuff. And I’ll review them here.
There will be blog posts reviewing said books and documentaries and such, and summarizing their findings. I’ll also create a page that has the most pertinent information all compiled in one place. (Link to said page to be given here in the future, once I create it – and it’ll also be in my menu.)
I invite you to join me on this journey. Leave comments, email me, etc. I want to hear from you! If you ever have any questions about anything I’ve posted, I’ll do my best to answer it. If you ever need someone to tell you that they’ve got your back, that’s me. If you disagree with anything I say, I want to hear that, too! It’s only through an open mind that I’ll have any hope to cut through all the bullshit out there and get to the truth.
Why should you follow my blog, subscribe to my newsletter (see sidebar or footer), or subscribe to me on YouTube?
Well, if you’re willing to go out and read all these books and watch all these documentaries, you won’t have to! But if you want to save yourself a whole bunch of time, I’m your gal.
And I’m going to go through this entire thing with as open a mind as I can manage. I have no set beliefs about any of this stuff. Scientific findings are constantly changing, and we have to be able to change our ideas along with it. But that doesn’t mean that there’s not truths out there about what the right thing to be eating is, or how to stave off disease, or how to help cut back on the stress that’s eating away at some people. I’m going to try to find that truth.
And I’m going to use common sense to get there. Radical idea, I know. I’m going to look at what works for people, why, and how… and combine it with other things that work for people… until we get a recipe for what works best for the most people.
If you think all that makes sense, then c’mon! Get well with me!
— cue cheesy but inspirational music here —
I’m going to be starting out with mostly nutrition and motivational, mind-over-matter kind of stuff, to help me out in my journey to lose weight. But this blog will also be featuring original recipes, tips on decluttering and leading a less stressful life, family, happiness, and much more!
The YouTube videos that I feature along with my posts are going to be very similar in content, by the way. But they’ll also include my daughter, Alexis, who is worth watching for sure. 🙂 But if you’d rather read the info, these posts are for you. If you’d rather watch it, head on over to YouTube and subscribe to me there instead if you’d like!
Thanks!
